Formula 1 has extended Pirelli’s tyre supply agreement through to 2028 following activation of an extension clause by the FIA.
The extension adds a further year to the existing contract, which covers the 2025 to 2027 seasons. The option for an additional year was included in that agreement and has been exercised by the FIA with the agreement of Formula One and Pirelli.
Pirelli will continue as the sole tyre supplier to all Formula One teams, a role it has held since the 2011 season. The single-supplier model remains in place under current sporting and technical regulations.
The existing contract followed a competitive tender process in which Pirelli secured the rights ahead of rival bidders. For future supply agreements, the FIA is required to open a formal tender process. Manufacturers submit technical proposals for evaluation by the FIA, after which commercial negotiations are conducted with Formula One.
The extension maintains continuity in tyre supply as the championship continues its global calendar, which includes the British Grand Prix as a key event within the UK market.
Interest from other manufacturers in future contracts has been reported, and any subsequent agreement beyond 2028 will be determined through the FIA’s tender process.
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem said, “Pirelli has been an important partner to the FIA F1 World Championship for many years, providing a consistently high standard of performance, innovation and safety at the highest level of our sport.
“This extension through to the end of 2028 provides stability for the championship.”
